Yep, It isn't a stain, it's what is left after the stain stripped off the top layers of counter-top [I'm guessing this is a post-formed laminate counter-top] It ate through the top protective layer and is exposing the other layers.
Acetone is mainly used in the manufacturing industry for dissolving most anything that is a resin base [nail polish, contact cements, fiberglass resins, etc], but is also the main ingredieat in polish remover. It will severely dry out organic materials, like your skin, wood, tanned leather, wool based products, etc.
