You want to keep it elevated to minimize blood flow to the extremity. The smartest move would be to have your friend shuttle you over to an ER, where they will be able to remove the boot and take the nail out without having to worry about tearing and artery, vein or a nerve. If the nail went though a boot and into your foot any more than a millimeter or two the you really do need to be admitted. You run the risk of tetanus plus a thousand other pathogens that can result in an infection, gangrene, or possibly amputation. Don't mess around- head to the ER. The chances of these affects happening are extremely slim I was just trying to scare you into going.What is the safest way to remove a nail from your foot? Time sensitive.?
Never remove an impaled object in the field. Isolate it, immobilize it, protect it and TRANSPORT IT!





Go to the doc, dude. No other advice will suffice.
You should not remove it yourself because you probably will not be able to control the bleeding once it is removed.
Its true, you really should go to the ER. Keep it elevated and have your friend bring you to the ER
Go to the ER, You might need Tetanus shot.
